On Thursday, January 26, 2023, Cayman Career Academy (CCA), in partnership with Workforce Opportunities and Residency Cayman (WORC), held a successful graduation with twenty-six (26) unique graduates, with three (3) embarking on multiple certifications. The ceremony was held at the Marriott Hotel and was attended by parents, friends, and WORC dignitaries.
The scholarships for this graduating cohort from WORC resulted in Caymanians being prepared for the job market:
Cayman Career Academy opened its doors in 2019 and, to date, has seen 68 students graduate in the beauty and spa industry. Some graduates work at doctors’ offices, others at spas such as the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Kimpton Seafire Hotel, Touch of Thai, Get Nailed & More, and others have opened their businesses.
Last year, Cayman Career Academy introduced the UK accreditation, EduQual, allowing them to expand their offerings to include other careers such as Diploma in Massage Therapy, Elderly Care Assistants, etc. With the elderly population growing rapidly, this is a great career opportunity for Caymanians. At the school, fourteen (14) Caymanians are currently doing the Elderly Care Assistant course.
Addressing the graduates, the Principal, Ms. Jacqui Tomlinson-Smith, reminded them that they now have a qualification that makes them well-equipped to fit into the spa and beauty industry job market. “I have enjoyed the journey with you. Now go forth and shine the CIDESCO way!” She also thanked WORC, especially Ms. Kimone Chambers and Ms.Dianne Conolly, Scholarship Secretariat (Ministry of Education), Fairbanks Prison, private spas who sponsored some of their workers, parents, and spouses of the graduates, CCA amazing lecturers, Ms. Wendy Lynch and Mrs. Hannah Taylor, and her three children, Renee Whorms, Vaughan and Christina Smith, as well as Almighty God for granting them a good year at CCA. “It is my hope that the country will realise that we offer a world-class standard of education right here in the Cayman Islands for anyone desirous of entering the spa and beauty industry, “ Ms.Jacqui told the press.
Ms. Dianne Conolly, Manager, National Training and Development Unit from WORC, congratulated the graduates that their CIDESCO qualification is the highest level of education in the beauty world – something they can use to demand a job in any part of the world.
